Yardpump

Here is a list of materials and parts for the Yardpump divided into what we sell you and what you buy locally. You need to measure your depth (S) from the top of the casing to lowest water (in fall), and depth (B) to the bottom of the well. Your well yield (Y) is on the welldrilling report usually filed with the state or provincial government groundwater branch. Then the safe but economical depth V to set the pump down the well casing is given by V=S+(B-S)*18/(Y in litres per minute).

We do not supply the wire needed because lengths are different for each installation. This 3/16" vinyl cover of 3/32" galvanised wire of 7 strands of 7 wires each is sold as clothesline wire eg Steelplast Durable 135 or Extra 120, or steering cable for small outboard motors.

   Cottagepump

Here is a list of materials and parts (see schematic) for the Cottagepump divided into what we sell you and what you buy locally. You need to measure the inner diameter (ID) and outer diameter (OD) of your wellcasing, your depth (T) from your frost-free level in the ground to lowest water level (in autumn), and depth (M) from frost-free to the bottom of the well. Your well yield (Y). This is on the welldrilling report usually filed with the state or provincial government groundwater branch. Then the safe but economical depth (E) to set the cylinder below your local frost-free depth is given by E = T + (M-T) x 18 / (Y litres/minute). You must also measure your horizontal pipe run distance (H) from the wellhead to the kitchen.

We do not supply rope because rope lengths are different for each installation and they should be measured and cut onsite. Your rope must be low-stretch and resist abrasion.

The low-cost long-length option is to use 3/16" vinyl covered 3/32" clothesline of 7 strands of 7 wires each for the straight runs and splice in ¼" 3-strand polyester (eg. Marlow pre-stretched) rope to run over the pulleys. Suitable clotheslines are Dura 135 and Extra 120 by Steelplast, also used for outboard steering cables. The less-labour option for short H & V of about 100' is to use low stretch 4mm Supercord, or 5mm Mistraline for medium H and V of about 150'. Phone 800-643-6350 or Fax -6340 to order these from G&B Ropes (Orillia, Ontario).
